About
We eat out so you
know where to go.
Betterfare started as a simple idea: what if restaurant recommendations were actually trustworthy?
Most food media is funded by the restaurants it covers. Sponsored posts, affiliate links, and “partnerships” have made it nearly impossible to know whether a glowing review reflects a genuine experience or a paid placement. We got tired of it.
So we built something different. Every restaurant we review, we visit anonymously and pay for ourselves. No press dinners, no comped meals, no sponsored content — ever. If we love a place, it’s because we actually love it. If we have reservations, we’ll tell you exactly why.
We cover New York for now, with plans to expand. Our focus is on the kind of places that reward attention — restaurants where someone is clearly thinking hard about the food, the room, and the experience. That might be a $400 omakase or a $14 bowl of ramen. Price isn’t the point. Quality is.
We publish one review a week. We think that’s the right pace — enough to stay current, slow enough to stay honest.
The kind of table worth booking in advance.
How we work
Anonymous visits
We never announce ourselves. Every review is based on the experience a regular customer would have — not a press dinner.
No sponsored content
We don't accept payment for coverage, free meals, or affiliate arrangements. Our opinions are our own.
One visit minimum
We visit every restaurant at least once before publishing. For places we're uncertain about, we go back.
